Adored for their selection of rare and out of print books, Twice Sold Tales is the quintessential boho-bookstore. A Capitol Hill staple for more than 20 years, the shop's prices are affordable, as books worth $70 new can easily be marked down to $20 used. Upon entry, the shop is easily a sensory delight for the true literary aficionado, carrying something for everyone. A vast collection is housed, ranging from classics to contemporary (or cookbooks!). With as many cozy corners for humans to duck in and out of as there are nooks for the cats that lounge about, one could easily spend a long afternoon milling about. The alternative-chic staff (which is altogether knowledgeable and friendly) wouldn't mind a bit. Book trading is a daily activity. However, the store purchases books by appointment only. For a special treat, try to stop by Sunday, Monday or Tuesday to catch owner Jamie Lutton, and ask her to quote some Shakespeare sonnets. In the event that the neighborhood location does not currently carry what you're looking for, try the lower Queen Anne or U-District locations, too.

905 E. John St., 324-2421. 10 a.m.-1 a.m.
