Seattle is a city whose environment oozes with art of all varieties, but Capitol Hill's own Frye Art Museum offers an incredible array of aesthetic attractions that is quite frankly second to none. Better yet, for the typical broke college student, the Frye's doors are open to everyone for free. Though the Frye's permanent gallery is composed almost entirely of paintings, and does not boast works by big name artists like Andy Warhol or Jackson Pollock like the Seattle Art Museum, the ambience in the building is welcoming and low key. Its rotating exhibits are always engaging and interesting for its many visitors. Comprised of such incredible pieces as William A. Bouguereau's "The Sherpherdess" and Adolf Shreyer's "The Burning Stable," the gallery's permanent "Frye Collection" is eclectic and exotic, and it merits several repeat visits in and of itself. Plus, the student showcases organized by local high school students and their instructors are always intriguing and help capture a sense of the Frye's community oriented approach to art exhibitionism.
