Going against the grain of major Seattle movie theaters like the Pacific Place AMC and Regal Cinemas, Capitol Hill's The Egyptian Theatre offers its moviegoers an eclectic selection of cinematographic pleasures with independent films running a month a piece. Weekly "Midnight Movies" allow its audiences to relive their pasts with cult favorites and film classics. The Egyptian's taste in independent film is remarkable, but the most intriguing part of the theatre is its design; it's a giant, sprawling cinema with an old-time feel viewers can't help but get immersed in. When the giant red curtain reels back, and the movie begins, it is almost impossible not to get lost in the movie-going madness that is the Egyptian experience. Midnight movies also offer a great social experience in addition to their inherent nostalgic value. While watching movies like "Dead Alive" or "Monty Python And The Holy Grail," there will always be a couple of boozy diehards in the audience reciting every line, inviting you to laugh with them as you reexamine the history of the film on screen. Seattle University students get discounts as well, so at $8.75 a show, the theatre offers a more intimate and majestic movie experience than most commercial theaters could ever hope to provide.
